Darcy Jacobs, who plays the leading role in short film ‘Finding Wilson’, has been awarded Best Young Actor by the Jane Austen International Film Festival.
‘Finding Wilson’ is the latest production from Fact Not Fiction Films that is raising awareness of mental health, in support of The Lucy Rayner Foundation.
Currently on its festival tour, ‘Finding Wilson’ has been playing at a number of UK and international festivals, with more screenings scheduled in the months ahead.
Having received critical acclaim for her last performance in short film ‘Missing a Note’, Darcy Jacobs was praised by the Jane Austen International Film Festival for her latest role, tackling a difficult subject in ‘Finding Wilson’.
Speaking about the award win, Iain Smith OBE said, “This is a powerful idea beautifully achieved. The linkage across a generation, and across a dramatic life experience delicately highlights the difference in point of view without preaching. And saves a young life that could have been lost through youthful lack of consciousness. I loved it.”
With an increasing number of young people being affected by mental health issues from anxiety to depression, ‘Finding Wilson’ is raising the impact it can have through its storyline, told through powerful and thought provoking performances.
According to the most recent surveys, at least 1 in 6 people in the UK have experienced a common mental health issue including depression or anxiety. The trend has continued to increase with year-on-year averages showing a dramatic uptick in recent years compared with the early 90s.
Film producer Rebecca Tranter from the Jane Austen International Film Festival said, “The story was quite moving but also unnerving as it explores the subject matter of bullying and PTSD. Great camera work! And, great acting from Darcy Jacobs!”
‘Finding Wilson’ is scheduled to play at the North East International Film Festival, The Horsham Film Festival and Sydney Women’s International Film Festival.
