The clock is ticking to get a Brexit deal over the line

This coming week, Parliament is set for a showdown as MPs battle it out to stop Boris Johnson from delivering a no-deal Brexit.

After a number of protests around the country on Friday and Saturday, there’s high anticipation that this will quickly become a heated ordeal before Parliament is suspended until mid-October. There’s a renewed push from parties to bring forward new legislation to stop the no-deal Brexit scenario, however this may prove to be impossible.

With a no-deal Brexit, there remain considerable obstacles in order to ensure a smooth transition after October 31st. While there is no parliamentary majority for a no-deal Brexit, there is also no majority for any other solution including a second referendum or the cancellation of Article 50. This provides MPs with few options, which amongst them, include legal action in the courts to re-open Parliament.

However, there is time to negotiate a Brexit deal if parties are willing to come together and work on solving the problems of the previous deal negotiated by Theresa May. The EU has categorically refused to make any changes to the Withdrawal Agreement and suggest it won’t even happen, however it is anticipated that should no-deal be impossible to prevent, this may give Boris Johnson the leverage needed to strike an acceptable compromise deal with the EU.
